DADDY LUMBA’S ONE WEEK OBSERVATION MOVED TO BLACK STAR SQUARE

The family of late highlife music legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has announced a change of venue for his one week observation ceremony.
In an important announcement on Thursday, the family confirmed that while the date remains unchanged, Saturday, August 30, 2025, the event has been moved to the Black Star Square (Independence Square) in Accra.
The change of venue likely reflects the massive public interest in paying tribute to the musical icon, whose passing on July 26, 2025, triggered nationwide mourning and an outpouring of grief from fans across Africa.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciate your understanding,” the family stated in their announcement.
The relocation to Ghana’s largest ceremonial grounds accommodates the expected thousands of mourners, fans, and dignitaries planning to attend the observance of the musician who revolutionized Ghanaian highlife music over his three-decade career.
President John Dramani Mahama has already pledged government support for the family during this difficult period, describing Daddy Lumba’s passing as “a significant national loss.”
The late musician, known for timeless hits including ‘Aben Wo Ha,’ ‘Theresa,’ ‘Yentie Obiaa,’ and ‘Playboy,’ remains one of Ghana’s most celebrated cultural icons, with his music transcending generations and borders.
